… for reasons too complicated to explain …

The stuff they play over the PA at Fitness First is truly horrible. I just can’t blank it out. I swear I would work out more often is they just turned it off!

Xanadu at Docklands.

A totally tongue-in-cheek version on the Olivia Newton-John classic.

A hoot and recommended.

On a really cool bar literally in the middle of the Yarra River. “Ponyfish Island” in attached to the pier of the footbridge from Flinders St station to Southbank.

Why can’t Brisbane do this?

I have had this cold for the past fortnight and just can’t shake it. Hope it’s cleared by the end of the week. We’re flying down to Melbourne for a few days’ R&R.

…until the big holiday. All the big things are sorted. Now it’s just the little things like packing and organising trip to the airport and getting the spare watch to work.

I’m getting excited…

Had a lovely day at the Ekka on Saturday. I hadn’t been to the Brisbane show before so I was looking forwards to seeing how it compared with the shows of my youth.

I’m a bit old for showbags and wasn’t really in the mood for rides, but there was still plenty to see. Highlight was probably feeding baby sheep and cows, although I did get head-butted by a cranky donkey!

The grounds themselves were a bit crumbly at the edges, and we always seemed to be at the back of something. There was no programme of events for the day, so I missed anything that we didn’t just stumble upon.

Still, i’m pleased we went.

Less than 8 weeks to go and plans for our big holiday are getting into full swing. We’ve bought plane tickets, arranged train tickets and started booking hotels.

The itineary includes

  • Vancouver (and Bowen Island)
  • Seattle
  • Portland
  • Los Angeles
  • Las Vegas (with a side trip to the Grand Canyon)

We’ll be flying to Vancouver via Los Angeles then making it down the coast in hops by train. The biggest is something like 30 hours from Portland to Los Angeles on the Coast Starlight. That bit’s my treat! We’re driving from Los Angeles to Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon. That should be fun too!

I’m looking forward to trying out Amtrak for the first time, and having a look round some cities. You can bet I’ll be taking lots of pictures of public transportation vehicles!

Very busy day today.

Just wanted to say how thrilled I am to receive a comment on yesterday’s post from no less a personage than Ron Oliver, director of the Donald Strachey movies I like so much.

I should have done a better job at a review :)
